You have found your perfect venue and are now thinking about how you want your venue set up, how you want it to look and feel.

You need to choose a colour scheme and theme for your day but where do you start?

Maybe start at your bridesmaids dresses, what colour are they wearing, then look a t flowers and colours to suit their dresses and carry this through to your venue.

Consider your venue decor, a plain barn with blank walls is perfect as you have a blank canvas to bring in lots of different colours and styles.

Be careful at venues that are dark or have been decorated in bold colours. You don’t want your colour scheme or theme to clash.

Research flowers, look into your favourite flowers and flowers you would like to include in your day. Not all flowers come in a wide range of colours or may not be available on your day. Think about table centres, is your venue large and does it have high ceilings? You may want to go for something big, grand and tall. Smaller venues may be better with low table centres, you also don’t want to let the table centre get in the way of guests view.

Once you have a colour in mind you may then find accessories that match well. Things like candle holders, favours, wedding stationery and chair covers.

Chair covers and sashes are a great way to add a splash of colour and carry the theme through your venue, if you can’t decided on one colour, choose two, having sashes in two colours is popular and looks great.

Think about adding a table runner and a table swag too. This adds a splash of colour but can also help draw your colour scheme and theme together.

If you have different areas in your venue that you want to dress but are worried about how your budget will stretch, don’t panic, think about small pieces scattered through the venue to carry colour scheme through. Small jars or vases with a few flowers dotted through the venue is great and can be moved around too.

Use arrangements twice, your service table flowers can be moved to your top table and then Buffet table too.

Bouquets can be placed in vases after photos, this keeps them fresh, evening guests can see them and they act as a decorative piece too.

If you have chosen a pale colour scheme, maybe think about adding a splash of a bright colour, you can then pick this colour up in small sections like ribbons on bouquets, scatter crystals and jewellery.

Research different colour schemes, may be look at two or three options and think about flowers to use, venue decor, bridesmaids dresses, your dress, and how easy it will be to add accessories to it.

There is so many different themes and colour schemes to choose from. You can go really full on or have a hint of a theme.

Flip through magazines, look online and gather your ideas in a scarp book, this helps us florists and venue stylists too when we meet for a consultation.

It’s about bringing it all together to make your day look picture perfect.
